Have you ever thought of getting bored or tired about doing something that you are originally passionate about? I'm sure all of us have dreams and our lives revolve in them. But the sad part is, no matter how we love our line of work or craft, there seem to be something that slows us down. Sharing with you key learnings I got today to get ignited and get back in business.
An article about the Myth of Passion and Motivation explains this. According to James Clear of his article The Myth of Passion and Motivation: How to Stay Focused When You Get Bored Working Toward Your Goals talks about the daily tasks in the business that seem to feel boring and consequently makes people uninterested about their job or projects. His article wrote about a gym instructor who trained athletes and Olympians. He asked him "What's the difference between the best athletes and everyone else. What do the really successful people do that most people don't?"
"At some point," he said, "it comes down to who can handle the boredom of training everyday and doing the same lifts over and over and over again." To Clear's surprise, he was expecting the trainer will mention genetics or even talent.
As a result, Clear said that people get depressed when they lose focus or motivation because they think that successful people have some unstoppable passion and willpower that they seem to be missing. But that's exactly the opposite of what this coach was saying.
Clear also highlighted what the coach said more about boredom. He said that successful people feel the same boredom and the same lack of motivation that everyone else feels. But the difference is that the people who stick with their goals don't let their emotions determine their actions. Additionally, it's the ability to do the work when it's not easy that separates the top performers from everyone else.
